About Us

The Wellfleet Fall Festival has been an annual tradition for over 50 years.  It all started when a group of local residents formed the Wellfleet Community Club and organized the event.  The festival has been held the second Saturday in September from the start.

One of the big traditions that attract a lot of people is the horse races. In fact it's one of the only places around that they still race horses down mainstreet. They line up at one end of mainstreet and race to the other end.  The winning horse usually wins around $100. This event has always been a crowd pleaser.

Another big event that has been a tradition for years is the free pit barbeque.  Yes they cook the meat in a pit dug in the ground. This event is sponsored and put on by the Wellfleet Community Club.  Preparation begins the day before with the burning of wood all day.  The meat is wrapped in tinfoil and then put in the pit that evening. The meat is then removed the next morning and sliced for sandwiches.  It is some of the best bbq you will ever eat.

Lots of friends and families gather every year to attend the Fall Festival.  In fact it is a reunion for many.  Other stories and traditions can always be heard each year.
